Figurines are often a great addition to any collectors cabinet, as they portray a wide variety of emotions and actions, whilst maintaining grace and . Some of the most popular figurines in the world today are made by the likes of LLadro, Hummel, Royal Doulton and Royal Worcester, making them highly collectable as a result.
Figurines are often made out of china, and the higher quality pieces are hand painted to give them an additional level of quality and character. More often than not, figurines are of the female form and sometimes include children or cherubs alongside the main character.
Figurines are thought to have been in existence for thousands of years, with the oldest examples being discovered in Egypt and China made out of clay or stone. More modern versions were created in porcelain or bone china for better strength and moulding capabilities as these techniques developed.
It is originally thought that Figurines were made in honour of a deity or figure of authority, with other various reasons including for entertianment, such as chess pieces or in other various board games. Other historians suggest that figurines are a reflection of human culture, displaying luxury and wealth, which could be immortalised in statuette form.
Although figurines can often come with a considerable price tag, they are a fantastic thing to collect. Due to the careful nature in which they are created, and the detailed moulding and painting work that goes into the pieces, figurines are an ideal item to add to your collections.
